Job brief
We are seeking a skilled and knowledgeable Forester to join our team. As a Forester, you will be responsible for managing forested land and ensuring its sustainability, productivity, and conservation.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement forest management plans to ensure sustainable and productive forest operations.
- Conduct site inspections and forest inventories to gather data on forest resources and assess their condition.
- Utilize GIS and other software programs to create forest maps, analyze data, and plan forest operations.
- Monitor forest operations, including harvesting, planting, and silvicultural treatments, to ensure compliance with forest management plans and environmental regulations.
- Establishing and nurturing relationships with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies, and keeping them maintained over time.
- Collaborate with other professionals, including engineers, ecologists, and wildlife biologists, to ensure integrated and comprehensive management of forested land.
- Participate in educational and outreach activities to promote sustainable forestry practices and enhance public understanding of the importance of forests.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in forestry, natural resources, or a related field; Master's degree preferred
- Proven experience in forest management, including knowledge of silviculture, forest ecology, and forest products
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using GIS and other software programs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse groups of stakeholders
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and forest certification standards, such as FSC and SFI
- Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including rough terrain and inclement weather
- The ability and willingness to travel and work flexible hours as needed
