Referral Request from Alumni email template

Use this template when you want to enlist the help of former employees to find candidates for job openings. It is a great way to broaden your search for great people, and does not take much effort beyond the initial email.

Why does it matter?

Ultimately, alumni referrals are a great way of finding new people to hire. Introducing referral programs will help you make the most out of the connections and social circles of past alumni, so that the company can hopefully find more people like them to help grow the business.

When to send?

This email should be sent right after an alumni referral program has been concluded internally and is ready to launch.

What to include?

  • A brief introduction to the referral program
  • Clear requirements for each referral
  • Conditions/rewards for each referral
  • Deadlines for each referral

Please keep in mind that this is a template. You may change it to suit your company's voice and tone.

Email subject line:  Attention [Company Name] Alumni, We Need Your Help!

Dear [Company Alumni],

Hope you are doing well. I am writing to inform you that we need your help. 

We are currently hiring for multiple positions, and would love for you to recommend any friends, acquaintances and more whom you feel could be a good fit for each position!

This Alumni Referrals program will officially be active from now until [End Date of Program]. For each successful referral who is hired and passes the probation period, we are happy to award the owner of the referral with [Reward for Referral].

Please find the list of job openings here: [Insert Vacant Job Titles Here].

Each referral must include the following information:

  • The person’s contact information (email address and phone number as a minimum)
  • The person’s full name, and how you know them
  • The position you believe they would be a good fit for, and why
  • The person’s key skills and abilities

Thank you in advance for your kind cooperation. Looking forward to getting lots of referrals!
