HR Assistants are key to helping the HR department run smoothly. They assist with a wide range of tasks from scheduling, candidate selection, process review, and consultation to ensure organization and filing in the department.

When interviewing an HR assistant, it is imperative to gain a good understanding of their overall HR knowledge. Looking for an educational background in Human Resources or similar would be an advantage, along with demonstrated experience in an HR coordinator or HR assistant role.

Role Specific Questions

Tell me about a time when you had to assist an HRBP/Manager with a disciplinary or warning. What role did you play?
What is your experience with recruitment and selection?
Why is it important to keep candidate/employee information up to date on an internal system?
What experience do you have with scheduling and calendar management?
Have you ever written an HR process/procedure? Either alone or with supervision?
Why is it important that a company has a robust HR department?

What negative impact can manager/employee conflict have on the overall team operations?

Behavioral Questions

How do you keep up to date with HR industry best practices?
Describe an employee conflict you faced; how did you resolve it?
Tell me about a time you had to remain professional in an upsetting or difficult situation.
