Interview Questions to Hire HR Onboarding Manager

HR Onboarding Managers are responsible for ensuring that new hires are onboarded into the company in a timely and professional manner, helping new team members learn about the company and ensuring they have a positive experience when joining. HR Onboarding managers look after various aspects of onboarding, from writing contracts to obtaining identification documents to sending out offer letters and liaising with hiring managers in various departments.

When interviewing an HR Onboarding manager, it is important that you look at their educational background. A study in a field such as HR would be great, but experience is key for this role. You should be looking for candidates who have experience in either recruitment or as an employee success manager.

Role Specific Questions

  • What documents are required from employees working in this region to ensure they are authorized to work?
  • How should employee identification documents be stored?
  • How would you explain the benefits offered by the company to new hires?
  • What three things do you think are most important to address on a new hire’s first day?
  • What impact can a negative onboarding or orientation process have on a new hire?
  • How do you work with hiring managers to ensure the complete onboarding process is consistent and in line with HR company policy?
  • What information is essential to gather from a new hire on their first day?
  • Why is it important to implement and keep a secure and organized document storage system in the HR department?
  • If you were asked by management to collate employee feedback on a new onboarding initiative or policy that had been rolled out, what would you do?

Behavioral Questions

  • How do you keep up to date with HR industry best practices?
  • Describe a time you had to maintain confidentiality.
  • Tell me about a time you went above and beyond to help a new hire through to orientation process.

Conclusion

Most HR Onboarding Managers will be able to provide comprehensive answers and demonstrate in-depth knowledge of these subject matter questions. Look for answers using the star method, and identify where persons are using specific examples from their previous roles/experience to demonstrate their working knowledge.
