Job brief

We are seeking a Chief Editor for our publishing house. Chief Editors need to be experienced and capable of overseeing an entire publishing process.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of writers.
• Proofread and edit writings.
• Maintain the organization’s stylebook.
• Assuring that every copy follows the editorial strategy and has the appropriate voice, context, balance, and clarity.
• Recruiting and training writers and editors
• Communicate with current and potential distributors respectively to maintain current and integrate new distribution channels.
• Maintain relationships with sponsors.
• Oversee the publication process.
• Attend seminars and events representing the company.
• Write editorial pieces.
• Fact-checking articles, stories, and claims.
• Review pitches and assign stories to writers.
• Cultivate a cohort of writers from diverse backgrounds who write in diverse fields to ensure that the company may publish on various topics with various perspectives.
• Perform high-level quality control.

Requirements

• Degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field
• 10+ years of experience in writing and editing roles
• Passionate about journalism and literature
• Ability to manage a team of writers
• Strong communication skills
• Possess Editing and Publishing certification
