Job brief

We are seeking a detail-focused, analytically-minded Medical Coder to join our team! The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong background in medical administration or billing and be adept at using healthcare billing and coding software. The focus of the role is to accurately and correctly code patients billing information for treatment to ensure that payments come in from insurers or other sources, analyze billing information, and ensure accurate data and reports.

Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze data to ascertain the need for financial reimbursements.
  • Analyze medical records and match treatments or identify anomalies or deficiencies.
  • Work within a team to become a resource for team members and a subject-matter expert for the coding team.
  • Review and verify documents relating to treatment and procedures.
  • Support procedures, diagnosis, and treatment results.
  • Account for coding abstracting and patient encounters, including procedural information, reportable elements, and complication or discrepancies.
  • Audit clinical documentation and coded data to ensure accuracy.
  • Assign codes for reimbursements and validate document support services.
  • Follow coding conventions and keep abreast of developing industry best practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A college degree in medical coding, medical terminology, or medical administration would be an advantage
  • Two years’ previous experience in a healthcare admin, clerical, billing, or related role
  • Excellent administrative abilities
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational skills with the prompt ability to manage own workload
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Strong ability to work both independently and as part of a team
