Job brief
The Probation Officer will be tasked with playing an active role in offender rehabilitation and community safety by delivering a broad range of community corrections programs and services to adult and young offenders.
Responsibilities
- Ensure offenders are compliant with supervision orders issued by the Courts and engage with community stakeholders.
- Assess and formulate case plans, and apply effective practices in community supervision to support clients' behavioral changes.
- Provide probation, parole, and conditional sentence services to adult offenders.
- Offer guidance and support to offenders through meaningful interventions and skills building.
- Liaise with victims and build relationships with diverse criminal justice system partners and stakeholders.
- Conduct investigations, prepare reports, and attend court hearings.
- Perform field visits and liaise with local authorities, Courts, and correctional centers as required.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with community counseling and programming resources, working with systematic barriers that affect individuals and the community.
- Promote a positive image for probation in the community.
Requirements
- A degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or criminology
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a social services or correctional organization in the delivery of structured individual and group interventions
- Skilled in building relationships and providing guidance and support
- Knowledge and ability to work with socially marginalized individuals and victims of trauma or abuse
- Remarkable time management and prioritization skills are imperative
- Demonstrate analytical thinking, sound judgment and decisiveness
- Knowledge of social justice, reintegration, and rehabilitation programs
- Ability to remain empathetic and be discreet and maintain confidentiality
