Purchasing agent job brief

Our company is seeking an experienced and motivated purchasing agent to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the purchasing process from start to finish, working with vendors, negotiating contracts, and ensuring timely delivery of goods.

Purchasing agent responsibilities

  • Conduct research to identify potential vendors and evaluate their price, quality, and delivery timeframes.
  • Create and maintain relationships with vendors to ensure seamless collaboration and communication.
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing to obtain the best possible value for the company.
  • Ensure all purchasing documents are complete and accurate such as purchase orders, invoices, and delivery notes.
  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure that stock is maintained at optimal levels while also avoiding over-purchasing.
  • Track and report key purchasing metrics such as delivery times, quality, and cost savings.
  • Work with the finance team to ensure timely payment to vendors and resolve any payment issues that arise.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as production and operations to ensure purchasing meets business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management, or related fields preferred but not required
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or related roles
  • Strong knowledge of procurement processes, vendor management, and contract negotiations
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, including the ability to build solid relationships with vendors and internal teams
  • Proficiency in using inventory management software and systems
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to analyze data and provide insights into purchasing trends
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines
  • Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate documentation
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changes in demand and market conditions
