Job brief
Partnering with the oncology team and other critical healthcare providers, the Radiation Therapist is responsible for assessing and determining the best course of radiation treatment. Working under the supervision of the Radiation Oncologist, the Radiation Therapist plays a vital role in the planning and execution of radiation treatments. This role requires technical expertise, superior attention to detail, well-honed critical thinking skills, and a naturally empathetic disposition.
Responsibilities
- In coordination with the oncology team, offer individualized radiation therapy treatments to patients.
- Partner with patients to explain their course of treatment and field/answer any questions.
- Administer radiation therapies as a part of the patient treatment plan.
- Use medical imaging equipment to ensure accurate delivery of treatments.
- Assess patients’ reactions to treatments, share side effects guidance, and propose methods for alleviating resulting side effects.
- Monitor patient progress and suggest treatment amendments plans as needed.
- Give ongoing support to patients and their families.
- Conduct quality assurance tests on simulation and treatment machines to ensure functioning working order.
- Engage and follow oncology research to enhance and improve treatment methods.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in radiation therapy
- 2+ yrs. of working experience as a radiation therapist
- Proficient technical skills and fluency using medical imaging equipment
- Strong critical thinking, interpersonal and communication skills
- Exceptional hand-eye coordination
- Professional, personable, and empathetic
- Meticulous with heightened attention to detail
